Yuzvendra Chahal: IPL’s Leading Wicket-Taker Who Faced Harassment During His Early Days

Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian cricketer, Early in his career two discouraging events of abuse that took place during his IPL career with Mumbai Indians.

Balcony incident (2013)

A drunken teammate wanted to push him from the 15th floor of a hotel during a post-match gathering in Bengaluru, says Chahal in a chilling episode from 2013. Their loss could be much worse if other players didn’t rush in to help when it did. “He called me outside and hung me over the balcony," stated Chahal, "I hung onto his neck, and had I lost grip, the situation could very much be unfavorable to all of us, however, this was not the case.’’

Tied and Forgotten (2011)

In another incident of abuse, Andrew Symonds and James Franklin, along with a few other teammates, locked Chahal in a room overnight in Chennai, after slapping his gags and taping his hands and legs during a party segment in Chennai. The rest of the people who were on cleaning duties found him early morning the very next day.

Though Chahal felt embarrassed in laughing mood about these instances later on, these instances go ahead in explaining the dark side of the ‘Locker Room’ culture. This incident made Chahal speak on the internet too and all sorts of conversations erupted regarding the safety of players in cricket and also their responsibilities.

However, a relationship developed over time. Speaking on Breakfast with Champions, Chahal had revealed some time ago that the two were close friends who exchange messages from time to time.
